Pinene, (C 10H 16) a monoterpene, is a colorless liquid which is obtained from rosemary industrially by steam distillation of the leaves. Hydrocarbon terpenes are dominant: 1,8-cineole in appreciable amounts and ketones in small amounts. Constituents such as α-pinene, limonene, 1,8-cineole, camphor, borneol and verbenone are also present. ( 2015) and Preedy ( 2016), the composition of rosemary oil is from 95 to 98 wt% of monoterpenes and derivatives and 2–5 wt% of sesquiterpenes. Rosemary essential oil is a colorless or yellowish liquid, with a camphorated scent. The chemical composition of its extracts and its essential oil varies according to climatic factors during cultivation, humidity, genetic factors and extraction processes (Porte and Godoy 2001 Benincá et al. It is also cultivated frequently in South America, Europe, and Asia, the leaves being used as a spice. The plant can reach 2 m in height and develops best in a hot temperate climate with a long exposure to the sun (photoperiod), but cannot survive harsh winters. It grows in southern Europe, North Africa and Southwest Asia. Rosmarinus officinalis L., is a perennial shrub from the Mediterranean region, belonging to the Lamiaceae botanical family.
